Problem:
It’s been 6 months since Tamir Rice was killed in the gazebo at Cudell Recreation Center. No one has been charged. No one has been held accountable. Officer Lehman who shot and killed Tamir, has not even been interviewed yet. It is clear that City and County official do not care enough about the Rice family or the City of Cleveland to move swiftly and seriously on this.
Solution:
It’s time for County Prosecutor McGinty to take this case and bring charges for both Officers involved in Tamir’s killing. We have seen other cities move quickly to investigate and resolve these cases, and we are calling on Prosecutor McGinty to do the same.
Action:
We will be joining hundreds on Saturday May 23 at Impett park to march to Prosecutor McGinty’s house to bring the urgency of the matter to his front door. If he does not move swiftly, we will continue to come back until his neighbors want justice as badly as we do.
We are calling on everyone who is ashamed of how the City has handled this case to join with us as the community makes it voice heard loud and clear. We are calling on everyone who is on the fence regarding this issue to choose which side you are on. Are you on the side of Tamir and his family, who wants what all of us would want if our child was killed so suddenly and mercilessly? Or are you on the side of a system of law enforcement that continues to withhold any sense of compassion for the Rice family, and so many others. Already the Department of Justice has outlined the many deep seeded problems within the Cleveland Police Department, and the way that our County law enforcement is handling this case proves that the City is not alone.
